A further use of profiles is the new quota management system. As from V1.4.0.010 we have implemented the ability to set quotas for users or groups of users. A quota is a byte limit set on a particular rule for a day and or a month. While a rule is below its quota we apply a particular profile and when it goes above its quota we allow the use of a different profile. For example we can set a daily limit of 10 Megabytes of data downloads for a user and while below that we can allow say 256Kbps download speed. Once above the quota we can automatically change to say 32Kbps. This is what is known as Capping and is common in xDSL type networks. In addition we have the ability to email the user automatically whenever the quota status changes.
